The Passing of Grant Piercy aged 22 years
EDJSA would like to extend sympathies to the family of Grant Piercy on behalf of the whole association. Grant was well known and liked at Salisbury United Junior Soccer Club where he had been a player and then a coach. For those who knew Grant they would remember him as a six year old kid who needed and then had a Heart-Lung transplant something that his parents had fought long and hard to make happen. His death has both saddened and shocked many people because he was so young and had fought a major battle just to have the 'normal' life that most people take for granted. Grant died last Tuesday 23rd November 2004 from a stroke, his funeral will be held tomorrow 29th November at Enfield Cemetary, East Chappel at 1:15pm. The family would like donations made to the Womens and Childrens Cardiology Department in lieu of flowers.

Zero Tolerance for Alcohol
Elizabeth and Districts (and the Local Councils) have policies in place that forbid the consumption of alcohol at any junior functions or games accept inside of a licensed premises. All member clubs of EDJSA by the fact that they are members agree to follow all the constitutional laws, by laws and policies of EDJSA and to that end the EDJSA constitution overrides any club constitution in any area where they differ. All member clubs must enforce the EDJSA constitution and cannot take the approach of ignoring these instances or claiming ignorance of the regulations. Zero tolerance means that no excuses will be accepted and that offending clubs, officials and in some instances spectators will be held accountable by EDJSA. It is hoped by EDJSA that all reasonable adults would agree that the consumption of alcohol has no place on the sidelines at any junior sporting game or function no matter what the code of game being played.

George Radford Retires
I like to advise all EDJSA member clubs that our longest serving referee (32 years) George Radford has decided to hang up his boots and retire. Unfortunately he will not be seeing out the rest of the season as he is moving to New Zealand on the 24th August.
Both the referees and EDJSA know George is well respected by all he has come in contact with not only in our association by also in the amateur association. His good humour and his bubbly personality on the field will be sadly missed by all. We wish George all the best in his future and thank him for his tireless support for all those years

State Championships
Elizabeth & Districts Junior Soccer Association (EDJSA) entered 6 teams into the South Australian Junior Soccer Associations (SAJSA) State Championships that were held in Broken Hill on the Queens birthday June long weekend. The teams entered were U/11, U/12, U/13, U/14, U/15 and U/16's and consisted of both Male and Female players. The players were selected by each age group's coaching staff from the near 4000 players aged from 5 to 17 registered with EDJSA.
The very good showing by EDJSA is accomplished despite all other associations including their South Australian Soccer Federation registered players something that EDJSA does not do because of dual registration regulations and the fact that we have a depth of players willing to perform at the standards demanded by this tournament competition.
EDJSA prides itself in helping any child from ages 5-17 learn to play soccer no matter what their ability or previous training. Not ony are we a nursury for players but also for referees through the Elizabeth & Districts Referees Association (EDRA) who provide referees for all U/9 and above games.
U/11 - State Champions undefeated and played well to continue the EDJSA U/11 dynasty of championships.
U/12 - Runners Up and came up against a team determined to rectify last years performance.
U/13 - Runners Up played well and faltered at the last hurdle.
U/14 - State Champions a truly great performance.
U/15 - 3rd on Goal Difference with a little more luck would have finished in the medals.
U/16 - 4th and played well in a very tough competition.

Muno Para loses the vote to change the EDJSA Constitution, a change supported by the EDJSA Executive. Muno para wanted the change because they could not field an under 14 team in EDJSA, as required by the constitution and were fielding an under 14 team in the Federation Junior Colts. Muno Para ran the risk of not being able to field any teams in EDJSA if they went against the Constitution after losing the vote.
The Executive felt that Muno Para had the best interests of junior soccer in mind when they applied for the Constitutional change and that the vote by the Council of Clubs was both fair and reasonable. None of the EDJSA stake holders wants to see changes made to the constitution without the full understanding of any ramifications.
With this in mind the Council of Clubs passed a minute, proposed by the Executive alowing Muno Para to play their teams in EDJSA this year. The follow on from this is that the EDJSA Executive will review the By-Law concerned and propose any changes they find necessary for a vote at the 2002 Annual General Meeting in November.
