Do you want to Referee?

Published Wed 04 Oct 2023

There are currently a number of vacancies on the Elizabeth and Districts Referees Association (E.D.R.A.) waiting list for the 2024 football (soccer) season.

It is important that each season E.D.R.A. has new members join the association to at least cover those who will not be returning for the following season and although there were 63 (sixty three) active E.D.R.A. referees last season many of those were not available on a regular basis and E.D.R.A would like to increase the number of active members to at least 70 (seventy).

In order to achieve that number there are vacancies for at least 7 (seven) new referees and that does not take into account those referees who will not be returning for the 2024 football (soccer) season and unless there are people who want to join E.D.R.A. well in excess of the number of new referees who joined last season, which was 17 (seventeen), there will always be a place for you as a member of E.D.R.A. but it will be first in best dressed.

Last season E.D.R.A. trained 17 (seventeen) new referees and there were 4 (four) referees who rejoined the association after not refereeing for a number of years so the overall numbers increased for the first time for many seasons and for the 2024 season E.D.R.A. would like that trend to continue.

In order to be able to cover all the games in the E. & D.J.S.A. competition for next season, which would be for the 12th (twelfth) season in succession where every game had an official from E.D.R.A. appointed to officiate at the game, (the information shown below refers to that record) it is vital that the overall number of members are at least retained but preferably increased.

All applicants must be 13 (thirteen) years of age prior to the start of the 2024 season, so April next year, but if your birthday is later then please still apply as if you turn that age during the season you may be able to commence as a referee later in the season.

If there is anybody, either in your club, or you know, who would like to become a referee for E.D.R.A. commencing in the 2024 football (soccer) season then would you please ask them to contact the E.D.R.A. appointments secretary, Merlin Amos, on his mobile number of 040 300 1567 as soon as possible.”

The following message has been issued to all E.D.R.A. members to indicate the great record that has been achieved now over the last 11 (eleven) seasons: -

Hi to you all

For the eleventh season in succession all E. & D.J.S.A. games have once again been covered by an E.D.R.A. official.

Over the last thirteen (13) seasons only one game has not been covered by an E.D.R.A. official and since the 2000 season only nine (9) games have not had an E.D.R.A. official in charge.

The above records are not easily obtained and my thanks goes to all referees who have been active with E.D.R.A. in any of those seasons as co-operation and availability from everybody is required for that wonderful record to have been achieved.

Please continue to support E.D.R.A. to enable that great record to be continued.

Thanks

Merlin

Would it not be great, after next season, to be a member of an association which had such a great record?
